The weekly survival in Rome tip: drink water for free

No need to have your daily budget drained by kiosks asking up to 5€ for a bottle of water on a sunny day in the center of Rome!
Drinking water in Rome is free! Thousands of nasoni (big nooses), the traditional and characteristic public fountains of Rome, are an endless 24/7 supply of fresh drinking water [...]

Antico caffé: have lunch between Fontana di Trevi and the Spanish Steps

When lunch time finds you between Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps or anywhere nearby via del Tritone,
you don’t have to sit down in a tourist restaurant to eat tourist food at tourist price. Just head for via Sant’Andrea delle Fratte and walk inside homestyle cafeteria Antico caffé looking for some real everyday Rome.
Those with [...]

Da Quinto icecreams&smothies

In the very heart of Rome, near Piazza Navona, you can find Da Quinto (Quinto is the name of the owner) ’s icecream parlour where in a friendly and informal atmosphere you can taste for just few euros the freshes and biggest icecreams, smoothies and shakes in town.
Coming from Piazza Navona, you will find Quinto’s [...]

Fagiani: a bakery near Termini

28042010 300x225 Fagiani: a bakery near Termini

Panificio Fagiani

Even if Termini district has improved much in the last ten years, it’s hard to find a good place to eat in the area. There are a lot of kebab fast foods and pizza a taglio but it’s hard to find something cheap and healthy to eat.

One of our favorite spots is Fagiani, a bakery, offering fresh and delicious food within 5 minutes walk from Termini Station.

Besides their fresh pizza (really really tasteful!), you can ask them to make you a sandwich (panino): you can choose among different types of bread or pizza (unleavened bread, a ciriola, a rosetta or slices of white bread-soft and light) to stuff with your favourite ham or cheese.

A Friendly Chinese Near the Imperial Forums

Last night we went back to La Città in Fiore (=Blossoming Town) craving for their potatoes&curry backed dumplings and we had the usual warm welcome.
Staff speak a poor Italian, but will nonetheless try to make you feel at home in this little (and always packed) Chinese restaurant down via Cavour – a 200m from the [...]

Late Night Crepes in San Lorenzo

As long as San Lorenzo has become a student district of the nearby University Sapienza, the nightlife in the weekend is not to miss.
From 9/10 PM to late in the night, the streets are full of young people with drinks in their hands, that talk, have fun and even dance. San Lorenzo is also a [...]

Volpetti: a food experience in Testaccio

Testaccio is one of the most traditional district in Rome where is still possible to find old shops and groceries in a quiet and handy atmosphere. There are many affordable places for every pocket.

Aperitivo

Keep your mood high! Go (to) Numbs!

Corso Trieste is probably one of the finest residential streets in Rome: elegant, quiet, with just a few shops. And at night there is not much life: this is why it’s called a “dormitory district”.
But of course there are some exceptions: some bars keep the mood high! As, for example, the famous Bar Tortuga, a [...]
